welcome to the mother prescription

A publication that explores reproductive experiences with serious mental illness through reported journalism, personal essays, and conversations with clinicians, researchers, advocates, and families. In this newsletter, I also share my own story of an infertility journey with a psychological disorder and lessons I’ve learned, not only as a mental health journalist, but also as a woman who profoundly identifies with other women and families struggling with pregnancy and mental illness.

My aim is to inform, inspire, provide actionable resources, and create a community in which women coping with a psychological disorder on their own reproductive journeys can find comfort, acceptance, and safety.

My husband Tim, who has cried with me on this journey, and I bond over ice cream, sky, and blue water.

Hey 👋

Welcome to the mother prescription.

I’m Meg LeDuc, an MFA in Creative Writing and mental health journalist who contributes a column on maternal mental health to Psychology Today. I’m a former daily-newspaper staff writer whose journalism was honored with a Michigan Press Association Award. I currently write for Issue Media Group, a Michigan newspaper chain, and its MI Mental Health Series, and my writing has recently appeared in HuffPost.

I’m a communications professional with 15+ years writing and editing experience & more than ten years of publication, both in mainstream media and literary journals. My work spans memoir, personal essay, journalism, psychology, and editing services for mental health narratives.

In addition to founding the mother prescription, I’ve been a mental health advocate across a range of roles:

👉 Writing instructor for people with mental health disabilities living in residential facilities

👉 University of Michigan’s Prechter Program presenter

👉 Peer-to-peer support group facilitator

👉 National Alliance on Mental Illness In Our Own Voice speaker

I also recently appeared on Tony Mantor’s top-rated podcast, Why Not Me?:

I bring these combined experiences, along with my lived experience, to everything I do. They’ve helped shape my deep desire to tell the stories of others and communicate hope through creative writing and journalism.

My newsletters include insights from personal experience, interviews with clinicians and researchers, the writings of qualified guests, and access to resources such as yoga therapy videos intended to help other women and families cope.
